El Parque Nacional del Manu es uno de los parques tropicales más grandes de América del Sur, ubicado en el sur de Perú. El parque, que cubre dos millones de hectáreas (4.5 millones de acres) y se extiende desde los Andes hasta la selva, es rico en flora y fauna, con una diversidad de ecosistemas que incluyen los altos Andes, bosques lluviosos y bosques tropicales. El Parque Nacional del Manu alberga nutrias, caimanes, jaguares, alrededor de 13 especies de primates, casi 1,000 especies de aves y el 10% de las especies de plantas vasculares del mundo. Fue reconocido como Reserva Biológica Mundial en 1977. Hay varias especies de higueras y palmeras, así como innumerables especies de plantas terapéuticas que están siendo catalogadas por biólogos. Se pueden encontrar hasta 220 especies de árboles en una sola hectárea del bosque del Manu.

Our journey begins early with a private bus ride to an altitude of 3,905 meters (13,000 ft.). We’ll make a brief stop in Ninamarca, a pre-Inca cemetery, and Paucartambo, a colonial settlement. Then we’ll descend the highland’s east slopes through «Cloud Forest,» a lushly vegetated area (ferns, orchids, bromeliads, bamboos, etc.) We’ll see animals such as the «red Cock of the Rocks» (our national bird), dazzling colored Tanagers, Quetzals, Trogons Tucans, and hummingbirds while enjoying breathtaking views of the highlands. We might be able to witness our first speckled bear if we’re lucky.
We’ll arrive in the afternoon in Pilcopata, where you’ll find comfortable lodging for the night (some shared facilities). After supper, your guide will give you an overview of the activities for the next day.
We’ll continue our journey to the Port of Atalaya after breakfast. We’ll stop at an animal rescue facility along the route. Following that, we’ll go on a short trek in search of orchids, bromeliads, bamboos, monkeys, and birds. You’ll take a 40-minute boat ride from the Port of Atalaya to the lowland rainforest «Alto Madre de Dios River,» where you’ll see a variety of exotic species, including the Jungle Condor «King Vulture» (Sarcoramphus papa).
We’ll spend the day exploring the rainforest for insects, frogs, snakes, caiman (alligators), and butterflies (2 and half hours).
We’ll early morning wake-up, followed by a great breakfast. We take a 30-minute speedboat ride to the parrots’ lick, where we’ll observe green and yellow parrots, birds, and other minor creatures. We’ll next return to Machuhuasi Lake, where we’ll board another raft for a boat excursion (2 hours). You will be able to see various wild species of bird-like hoatzin here. Finally, we’ll go for a one-hour forest trek before spending the night at the logde.
We board the motorboat returning to Atalaya after breakfast. Our transportation will be ready for us when we arrive. We’ll go into the cloud forest, stopping along the way to see more birds, insects, and butterflies, as well as stopping to see wild animals. Around 6:00 p.m., we’ll arrive in Cusco. For an extra fee, you may participate in a zip line and river rafting session.
