Choquequirao Trek To Machupicchu

Continuing with our specialty in trekking off the beaten track, we offer you one of the most spectacular treks to reach the Inca city of Machupicchu, we will cross the Apurimac canyon, habitat of the Andean condor, at the top of the mountains is one of the last cities of the Incas Choquequirao, an extraordinary city with a set of religious precincts and impressive terraces and the most impressive a panoramic view of the Apurimac canyon, will use the Inca trail that connects Llactapata a religious precinct that is located just in front of Machupicchu and a day of walking.

Itinerary

Day 1Cusco - Capuliyoc - Chikiska - Playa Rosalinas

We start the day very early and the pick up will be in our private transport at 5:00 am at your hotel, we go to Capiliyoc, a wonderful place surrounded by mountains and the Apurimac canyon, it is in this place where our rider awaits us and his horses, we organize our equipment to then be able to start our adventure and take our first steps towards a great experience, we will descend 2 hours until we reach chikisca, where we will have our first lunch, after enjoying this delicious lunch we will continue with the walk until we reach to Rosalinda beach (1,550 m / 5,085 feet) where we will camp, upon arrival we will have our hot drinks and snacks as well as our tents already installed to rest.

Day 2Rosalinas Beach - Maranpata - Choquequirao

Our first sunrise surrounded by mountains, will be with a cup of coffee or coca tea in your tent, then we will have our nutritious breakfast to start our 4-hour hike uphill until we reach Maranpata, a small place with some houses of the local people, after tasting our lunch we continue walking for 2 hours until we reach the Choquequirao camp (3,111 m / 10,120 ft) we are already close to the Inca city.

Day 3Choquequirao - Pinchiunuyoc

After our breakfast, we will have a day of exploration within the Inca city of Choquequirao visiting the most important precincts and places in the city, we will learn about its history, why it was built in this area, and much more, to then have lunch and rest a shortly, after lunch we continue with our journey, walking uphill for 2 hours and surrounding the city until we reach a magnificent place called pinchiunuyuc, where we will spend the night and as always with another spectacular view.

Day 4Pinchiunuyoc - River Blanco – Maizal

It is one of the hardest days that is why we will leave early to take advantage of the freshness of the morning, after our breakfast we leave our camp to walk downhill for 2 to 3 hours until we reach the white river (1,991 m / 6,528 feet) , where we will have lunch and then begin to climb uphill for 4 hours until we reach the cornfield, which will be our next camp.

Day 5Maizal - Yanama

Continuing with our adventure, today is the day to reach the Yanama pass and also go through the silver mines “VICTORY” the walk will be 3 hours uphill until reaching the highest point of the Yanama pass (4,130 m / 13,546 feet) . A place that will dazzle us with its impressive view of the snowy peaks and the surrounding mountains, as well as a very picturesque Yanama town, a place that will be our camp.

Day 6Yanama To Colpapampa

 After our breakfast in the town of Yanama, this day we walk for seven hours all day, 4 hours uphill until we reach the Marianito Llamoja pass at 4850 meters / 15908 feet and 3 hours downhill until we reach the Totora valley, where we will pass the night.

Day 7Colpapampa - Salkantaypampa

Today’s hike is mostly uphill as we will climb from the base of the valley to the Salkantay Pass (4600m). You can clearly see how the landscape changes as you pass through the “eyebrow of the jungle”. You finally reach the pass after 5 hours of walking. This is the second highest point of the trip. (4,600 meters / 13,451) When walking along this section, you will meet most of the walkers of the classic Salkantay path, but in reverse. From the pass you will descend approximately 2 hours to Salkantaypampa (4100m) where the group can camp or continue to ichupata.

Day 8Salkantaypampa – Pampajaponesa

There is nothing better than waking up with a hot cup of coffee in this magnificent place that will be served in your tent, to then organize ourselves and start our trek to our next camp. It will take us about 3 hours uphill, at this point we will be so close to the Salkantay mountain that we will have the sensation of having it in our hands with its colorful lagoons and snowy peaks, then we will have our lunch halfway up the road and continue towards the camp where our appetizers and a hot chocolate await us.

Day 9Pampajaponesa – Sisaypampa

After a well-deserved breakfast and as hosts the snow-capped peaks of Salkantay, we will walk uphill until we reach the highest point of the trek, the Incachiriaska pass (4,880 m / 16,010 feet) where the Salkantay route can be seen from a distance. used to get to Machupicchu and our route that deviates towards the Vilcanota river basin and connects with the great Inca trail, our trail is also used by great climbers who want to reach the Salkantay chasm, it is also characterized by the sighting of the great Andean condor, the largest flying bird on the planet, we will descend downhill until we reach our camp called Sisaypampa.

Day 10Sisaypampa – Wayllabamba- Llulluchapampa

After tasting our delicious breakfast, it will be time to say goodbye to our riders who accompanied us from the first day to this one, who will be replaced by the porters who will be in charge of carrying the camping equipment until the end of the trek.

This day we begin to find the first archaeological signs, we are entering Inca territory and as first evidence we find an Inca channel as a sample of their work in hydraulic engineering, we will follow the channel until it leads us to the following archaeological sites such as paucarcancha and wayllabamba , we have lunch in wayllabamba and then continue with our adventure, but this time within the classic Inca trail towards our Llulluchapampa camp.

Day 11Lluluchapampa - Pacaymayu - Phuyupatamarca

Lluchapampa is a camp near the highest pass of the classic Inca trail and majestic due to the greatness of its surrounding mountains, after having a majestic breakfast we continue with our journey uphill for 2 hours until we reach warmihuañusca (4,217 m / 14,047 ft ), later we descend towards Pacaymayo for our lunch to then continue uphill to the 2nd Rukurakay pass (3,977 m / 13,127 feet). Another fantastic view of the snow-capped mountains of Pumasillo, we are entering a tropical zone and everything looks totally green, following the Inca Trail we pass through Sayacmarca, Chakicocha to end the day in one of the most spectacular camps of the entire trek with a magical Phuyupatamarca sunset and sunrise.

Day 12Phuyupatamarca - Wiñay Wayna - Aguas Calientes

Waking up in a place surrounded by mountains in the open field with a spectacular 360-degree view and a privileged sunrise can only be enjoyed in Phuyupatamarca, we have our breakfast enjoying the sunrise and appreciating the Urubamba canyon and the Machupicchu mountain in the distance, our The day begins with a 3-hour descent through the cloud forest and the famous 3,000 thousand steps until we reach Wiñaywayna for our lunch, and then walk for 1 hour to Puerta del Sol, from here you can enjoy the Inca city of Machu Picchu and all the mountains around it. Then, we descend to the citadel to take as many photos as possible and then take our transport to Aguas Calientes, where we have dinner together in a restaurant, then spend the night in a hotel.

Day 13Aguas Calientes - Machupicchu - Cusco

In the morning we will have breakfast at the hotel and then take the bus that will take us back to this magical place, we can enjoy it once again but this time in its maximum splendor and with enough time, your guide will give you a complete explanation. of this magnificent place, visiting the most important precincts and temples of the city of Machupicchu.

After the guided visit and finish the tour with your guide, the people who booked to visit the Huaynapicchu mountain or the Machupicchu mountain will have time to enjoy these magnificent places on their own, later after your tour please take the bus heading to the town of Aguas Calientes for lunch (not included) and depending on the train’s departure time, it is possible that you can tour the small very touristic city of Aguas Calientes.

The train will take you to Ollantaytambo where our driver will meet you at the exit of the train station to take you back to the city of Cusco, exactly at the door of your hotel.
