Early in the morning, we will pick you up from your hotel to begin our journey outside of Cusco. We’ll stop along the road to see the Chullpas of Ninamarca, which are burial towers at an elevation of 12,139 feet. We’ll then travel to Paucartambo, a little town colonial . From there, we’ll go to Acjanaco, which is at an elevation of 13,123 feet. There lies the Manu National Park’s entrance point, from where we will begin our descent into the Cloud Forest, where we will view a diverse range of flora and wildlife. We’ll take a short stroll here to see if we can spot some birds such as the gallito de las rocas (rock cockatoo) and the quetzal.
We will arrive in the afternoon to Pilcopata, where we will stay at our lodge for a shower and some rest. Then we’ll have dinner and get some rest in preparation for the next day.
We’ll wake up early to eat breakfast before embarking on a bus excursion to Atalaya. We’ll change modes of transportation here and take a boat for a half-hour journey to Paititi Lodge, where we’ll spend our second night. Aside from the Amazonian rainforest beauty, we will witness a wide range of creatures that live along the river’s bank during our journey. After settling in, we’ll have lunch before heading to Cocha Machuhuasi, a lagoon where we’ll embark on a wooden raft tour to see a variety of birds, monkeys, alligators, and other wildlife. The option of going on a night trip to live the experience and hear the noises of the forest is available.
We will wake up extremely early on the last day to undertake a 45-minute navigation to the collpa of the parrots. A collpa is a clay wall that these birds use to supplement their diet with nutrients not found in their normal food. Hundreds of green parrots from up to four different species can be seen here. After taking in this natural beauty and taking some photos, we’ll return to the lodge for breakfast before resuming our journey back on the boat. We will change modes of conveyance at Atalaya and continue on the ground route, passing through the Cloud Forest once again before arriving in Cusco, where our magnific journey will conclude.
Incredible experience in Manu National Park, full of life!
